Yonathan Buks, BVSc (Hons), DACVS-SA

Dr. Yonathan Buks left his home country of Israel to pursue his passion in veterinary medicine and followed his dreams to Australia. There, he graduated with first class honors from the University of Melbourne, Australia in 2009. Dr. Buks then completed a one year internship at a private referral practice in Melbourne the following year.

In 2011, Yonathan immigrated again, this time to the United States, where he completed a second internship at the University of Minnesota. He was then accepted to the surgical residency program at Animal Specialty Group in Los-Angeles, where he completed an intensive three year-long surgical training program.

During his residency, Dr. Buks completed a study of canine total hip replacements in conjunction with the biomechanical lab at the University of California Davis. His research project was presented at the Veterinary Orthopedic Society’s annual meeting where it was awarded the prestigious Mark Bloomberg research award. Then, in early 2016, Dr. Buks took yet another step forward in his education and career by becoming a board-certified specialist in surgery.

Outside the operating room, Dr. Buks, who is fluent in English and Hebrew, enjoys downhill skiing, cycling, cooking, and spending time with his wife and three kids, as well as the household cat named Betty.
