Dr. Kathryn Gates is the Director of Specialty and Emergency Medicine, providing support and medical leadership for the ACCESS Hospitals. Through this role she works with the very talented team of Doctors, technical staff and administrators to support and lead with a collaborative team approach.
Dr. Gates grew up in Auckland, New Zealand, and received her Veterinary Degree from Massey University in 2002. After graduating, she decided to pursue her passion for travel and higher education. Through the internship and residency matching program, she moved to America in 2004. Here, she completed a rotating internship at Oklahoma State University, followed by a three-year residency in Emergency & Critical Care at Advanced Critical Care and Internal Medicine in Orange County, California,
Kathryn became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2009 and has been with ACCESS sine 2010. Since then, in addition to being part of the Critical Care team caring for patients, she has lectured in both local and international conferences on mechanical ventilation, trauma management, toxicities, and anesthesia for critically ill patients.
Kathryn has a special interest in working to advance training initiatives, and a focus on the continual improvement of processes to support both high quality, compassionate patient care, as well as the wellbeing and development of our dedicated team of caregivers.
Outside of the hospital, she loves to spend time with her family, friends and golden retriever Ollie, and to explore whenever possible both locally and abroad.
