Dr. Danielle DeMel, DVM

Dr. Danielle DeMel was born and raised in San Juan Capistrano, California. She grew up riding quarter horses competitively, which sparked an early interest for veterinary medicine.

She completed her undergraduate training at California Polytechnic University and earned her degree in Veterinary Science. During her time at Cal Poly, Danielle competed on the intercollegiate equestrian team, traveling the county for competition and becoming nationally ranked in her sport. She was lucky enough to stay in Southern California to complete her doctorate in veterinary medicine at Western University of Health Sciences.

During her time as a veterinary student, Danielle had diverse interests in equine and small animal medicine and worked on a research project studying the immune response in horses to the canine Lyme vaccine. She ultimately honed in on her passion for small animal emergency and critical care during her fourth year of vet school, which inspired her to complete an internship at a VCA in Oceanside, CA in small animal emergency and general practice.

She then went on to continue a second specialty internship focused on small animal emergency and critical care at a VCA in the beautiful city of San Diego. Danielle’s professional interests include sepsis, anesthesia, and analgesia in critical patients and trauma.

Outside of the hospital, Danielle enjoys most outdoor activities including hiking, horseback riding, and spending time with her Great Pyrenees puppy, Boo Radley.
