Kathryn Gates, BVSc, DACVECC

Dr. Kathryn Gates grew up in Auckland, New Zealand, and received her veterinary degree from Massey University in 2002. Dr. Gates decided to pursue her passion for travel and higher education, and through the internship and residency matching program, she moved to America in 2004. Here, she completed a rotating medical and surgical internship at Oklahoma State University, followed by a three year residency in Emergency and Critical Care at Advanced Critical Care and Internal Medicine in Tustin, California.
Kathryn became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2009 and has been with ACCESS since 2010. Since then, she has lectured in both local and international conferences on a variety of critical care topics including sepsis, ventilation, diagnostic imaging and trauma management. She was appointed Medical Director of ACCESS Los Angeles in 2014 and proud to lead a very dedicated team of doctors.
Kathryn has special interest in mechanical ventilation, sepsis, trauma management, anesthesia for critically ill patients, post-operative intensive care, and pain management. Outside of the emergency room, she enjoys hiking with her husband anywhere along the coastline, traveling, and spending time with her family and pets – Finn, the Bull Mastiff, and three cats Spencer, Captain, and Keto.
Kathryn is dedicated to providing the best in compassionate care to her patients and clients and is available for primary emergency cases in addition to critical care referrals.
